Super Pink Moon First time attempting moon photography on 8th April. Infact had never used the rooftop of our condominium prior to this ☺
What can be seen with Binocs? Could spot Typho(the southern crater) with ejecting rays, Maria (lava seas) and the Lunar Triangle-craters Copernicus, Aristarchus and Kepler (named after the three legendary astronomers).
Why Super? When a full moon appears at perigee (closest to Earth), it is slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon - and that’s where we get a ‘supermoon." Supermoon is 7% larger than other full moons and both cause tidal increase by over 25%. When we have a Supermoon, the Moon can appear as much as 14% larger and 30% brighter than a normal full Moon.
Why Pink? Full moon in April month falls with the early springtime of certain wildflowers native to eastern North America that are also called 'moss pink'. Thus, the name 'Pink' refers to the pink flower that blossoms during this time and not the colour of the moon!
Blue Moon anyone? This year promises to be a stargazer’s treat, especially when it comes to full Moons. In 2020, we’ll have 13 full Moons, including 2 two Supermoons (done for this year), and two full moons in one month (October)—the second full month in that month is known as a “Blue Moon.” And that occurs on Halloween, making it an even rarer occurrence!
